George W and the Ooblek

It truly pains me to get namby-pamby with BAMBY.

He swallows, hook line and sinker, the vilest bunk from the crew bound for the clinker. Cutting taxes for the rich helps the poor. Hate drilling in the Arctic? Don't be a Saudi-loving boor! No child left behind, but as for program funding let's agree to go blind. If you disagree with the president, it is with the terrorists you share a mind.

How can this bunch, so famous for screaming down is up, be wrong? The leak secured us and it was Wilson's claims that shot long. For you can easily see, Iraq posed all the threats W promised there'd be. The terrorists are on their knees and democracy is sprouting like a ripe weed.

America has no need for cheap migrant labor. We can preach morality and hate thy neighbor. The nation's parks aren't for nature. Hate the game, not the player.

So if we all throw up our hands, and toss sanity to the breeze, we can all say and do what we please. We can selectively leak and lie when we want. It doesn't matter when the president is an ignorant dilettante.

now, now, chb. i think peter's wrong on some facts. and i also disagree strongly with many of his opinions. but he certainly hasn't expressed all the opinions that you ascribe to him, and when he has it usually isn't---perhaps never is---anything close to the invective-filled tone that you suggest.

in my book, peter's wrong about a lot of things, and he does support politicians and pundits who use the sort of tone you ascribe.

but that's his right, just as you and i might sometimes support other politicians who make noxious statements and bad policies, on the grounds that even so, the alternative to supporting them is much worse.

let's try to make sure ccm is an oasis of calm, reasoned debate rather than yet another swamp of finger-pointing and personal attacks.

Typically, borrowing Dr. Seuss' stylebook is a giveaway that i'm having some fun, rather than some invective, my CCM pard'ner.
the lesson i sought to pass on is that when you've been lied to so often by a group in power, it makes sense to evaluate that track record when more hooey is peddled down to the masses. It's all of a piece -- lie and distract. lie and distract. no matter the agents of that distraction, we all know who it serves.

Clean Skies, anyone? Last throes, anyone?

I love having Bamby back, and not just to beat like a pinata with my comedy stylings. but to bring back some various voices to this page.

Read the piece again, and consider it a lesson to those who would swallow anything dangled by the White House. that's all. it's not a hit piece on peter. it's a reasoned argument, as the Lorax might make, to anyone who might cut down a truffula tree.
